New Zealand pt. 1 — Sydney Stopover

Why am I starting my post with this shitty filtered picture?

Well it’s one of only two pictures I have of my NZ trip where my two travel buddies and I were in the same frame! We took this after getting a cab from the Sydney airport. Don’t forget to take photos when travelling, people!

Ok anyway. We had planned to take a trip for quite some time to someplace nice. The original plan was London for Christmas but we decided against it in the end, and then NZ came up. Karen and I really wanted to go skydiving and Mimi was up for anything so we booked the trip.

FOL though as AirAsia had cancelled its KL-Christchurch route just a few months prior so we had to make a stopover in Sydney and take an Air NZ flight to Christchurch itself.

Due to the magic that is AirAsia checkin though, I was seated alone for the flight to Sydney. Thank goodness for the iPad!

We tried to find the cheapest accommodation we could as Sydney is a really really expensive city to visit. Backpacker’s HQ seemed to have good rates and we were pleased that it was quite clean. We also lucked out by getting a four-bed dorm to ourselves.

I remember being happy it was near public transportation and food, but when I told a friend from Sydney we were staying at King’s Cross district she asked if we could meet elsewhere because it is apparently the red-light district! *shrug*

The hostel had a map of free stuff to see and do in Sydney which suited us fine as we had nothing to do in the afternoon. So we took a long walk to see the city sights.

Walking in a temperate country isn’t like in Malaysia, because it’s so cool you can walk much further without getting tired.

This is Hyde Park. We saw many people sitting on the grass having their lunch.

We walked all the way to the Museum of Contemporary Art and since it was free we went in.

I’ll never understand “contemporary art” though. This is a display of spools of string and I dunno what it means.

This is grey stuff hanging from the ceiling. I feel like I’m writing a Peter and Jane story :3

Ok so after we were done with that we went to take pictures of the building shaped like shells.

As there sun went down we headed to Darling Harbour. Boy was it beautiful beautiful beautiful.

I was very proud of this picture by the way as the iPhone didn’t have built-in Panaroma at the time so I used an app to take this. The oohs and aahs made me feel so 1337.

@pinkytham recommended that we try the ribs at Hurricane Grill and Bar and so we made time for it. It was quite good but it was a really busy place so we eventually had to sit near the kitchen far away from the windows. Ohwell.

We took a long walk back to the hostel and had an early night because of our flight out the next morning. Unfortunately the 4s camera was really bad at night so this series wont have any night pictures :p
